Tsongkhapa naj bi dejal, da se bo na desnem bregu reke Ind nekoč razcvetelo njegovo učenje. V duhu te napovedi je Jangsem (Changsem) Sherab Zangpo iz Stoda v 15. stoletju zgradil tempelj Stagmo Lhakhang, vendar takrat še ni bila ustanovljena meniška skupnost. Njegov nečak Paldan Sherab je leta 1446 ustanovil Thiksey.

V bližini gompa Nyarma. Velik tempelj, ki ga je zgradil Rinchen Zangpo, in je danes v ruševinah. Ohranjen je tempelj z imenom Lhakhang Nyerma, posvečen boginji Dorje Chenmo (omenjen v sami biografiji Zangpa).
